Hard Week of Labour

Week of Hard Labour DAY 5

fullsizeoutput_5982If there’s one thing I’ve learned this week with this program is that SAGI, the trainer never disappoints when he gives us these workouts to push ourselves and try new exercises. My goodness, I couldn’t believe how much I had sweated this round.  Friday was day 5- Total Body. You’re not kidding, from decline pushups to 8 counts deadlift. My goodness, let’s just say my arms are sore.

I know some people think you can only get a true workout with weights at a gym. Well, I’m telling you this is no joke. It was tough, I used 10&15 lb weights and that doesn’t sound like a lot but trust me when you’re doing 8 reps of squats with a press it’s heavy. I know I”m building myself to get toned and feel good. I know the end result will feel really good too. Why? Not because I’m building muscle, but because I started a program and finished it. My reward will be that I will lose inches and hopefully some weight, but the biggest reward will be that I accomplished it. From pressing play on Day 1 to Day 21.

I know my success is from consistency and motivation. Even with the dam cold, I managed to keep going. I took a couple of days rest, but I got back at it. It feels so great to NOT give up. Not feel like a failure, I failed forward. I had to modify, I had to use lower weights, but it comes in time. They say “Rome wasn’t built in a day” right? Well, it takes time to build my body into a healthy and toned one. Considering I never cared about my body for over 30 years. Think it’s going to take time to get to my goal. But I’m having a blast doing it.!! That’s the main thing right?

Week Of Hard Labour – Core

IMG_1503One of the hardest things I have found that going through Menopause is that I have a lot of lack of sleep.  So working the night shift, seemed to be the only solution.  Well, now I’m even finding that difficult. With the lack of sleep.  But I still wake up get dressed and press play on my laptop and stream my workout for the day. Believe it or not but I actually get more energy after my workout.  Go Figure !!

With being a coach, I have a good group of women that are pushing for their goals as well as mine, which has been an amazing journey, to have these ladies in my life to help give me the motivation I might need that day, that push for the consistency.  To see them to getting amazing results have filled my heart even bigger than before.  So in this challenge group, I added a mini challenge called.” muffin top eliminator”  quick little exercises to add to our usual routine of the normal workout. Seemed smart at the time. Well, Tuesday for some reason I totally missed doing it, which doesn’t look good for a coach. lol. So yesterday I had to double up. BOY was that tough. Between the Rusian twists and the Dolphin planks. But then I hadn’t even done my regular workout.

Which of course was more CORE exercises. What was I thinking?  Maybe it was the lack of sleep because I don’t think I was thinking. But I got it done, I did have to modify, I really suck at core workouts. It will come, I will get better. The point is not to give up. Or throw in the towel. I did that way too many times before. Not going to do that again. Besides with all my complaining about doing planks, Russian Twists I really enjoy it. In fact, I love it!! Every day I get to learn how much stronger I’m getting, and what I can accomplish. Who wouldn’t love that?  Doing something all by yourself. That you accomplished! Granted some of the moves were not pretty lol. There was one that he called “drop in the bucket” where you do a side crunch left, then right, then this is where the fun begins. You take your right leg and turn it inside and twist your body enough that only your booty touches the ground. lol. Like I said it was not a pretty sight! But I laughed and sweated the whole time I’m dropping my bucket.  After my workout I got dressed ready for work then I had my amazing recovery/shake to replenish my muscles. I have to confess I am a real chocolate addict. SO this hit the spot I tell you!!

If there is one thing I have learned since I started Beachbody is that to never underestimate a New Program.  This program has proven to me that I am far from exceeding my limits. My Legs, glutes and quads were on fire after this workout. Which was much needed after that two-week vacation. It felt good to get back into it Hard Core and to push myself, not make excuses. Do the best I can. which I did.

Between, the sumo squats to half squats with a Heavy Plus weight (mine was 25 lbs) or the front lunges and Bulgarian split squat. I couldn’t remember which one gave me the hardest time.  I’m very proud of myself for stepping up my weight to 25lbs. on the big moves or exercises. I didn’t give up or give in. I stuck it through, it was tough by no means. The last quarter of the workout was the toughest, he had me using my Heavy Plus through the most of it.  What I find astounding is that what I have discovered about myself and my capabilities.  I never ever thought that I could lift anything more than 5 or 10lbs. at the most. But now I am lifting 20 & 25. The best part is that I’m loving it the whole time, this isn’t a punishment by no means. It’s my stress reliever, my energy lifter, my progress monitor.  Boy, I was huffing and puffing, no doubt about that, and sweat? It was buckets. lol. But I’ve already seen progress, and I know it’s only improved or increase in time. That’s what I love the most. If you’re looking for something a little more challenging or different this program is definitely for you.

When I get up from my sleep, from my night shift, I will be working on my core which I know for a fact I am in desperate need of.  Heck, I even had to buy new gloves because mine wore out.  Today when I wake up from my night shift, I will definitely be having something to eat and rejuvenate my muscles etc. I can’t wait to see how much progress I will have when this round is all over.

Hard Week of Labour

After our two week vacation, I have found it was a real tough way to stay on target and keep my focus on eating healthy and exercising every day.  I know we don’t work out every day but it’s a routine that I’m used to workout for 6 days and 1 day of rest.  So I faced the demon and went on the scale and yes I could have ignored it and just avoided the fact that I ate ice cream, not as a treat but almost every night. lol. Or take out a lot.  But I knew that was my old way and the way that got me to gain up to 250 lbs.

I was NOT going down that road again. I have worked too hard. I have done so many fad diets, and non-fad diets, but I always gave up, when something would happen to throw me off course. Like vacation etc.  So when I saw I gained over 8 lbs I knew I had to kick it into action.  Thank goodness this brand new program started on the 5th of Sept. Which is kind of funny when I think of it. I love running, it is my true passion but when I bought a program called HAMMER & CHISEL. I’m not going to lie I was a little apprehensive because it was a cardio/ weight lifting program.  I used to go to the gym and I would play around with weights a bit, try and look like I knew what I was doing lol. I certainly didn’t have the money for a personal trainer. So I would go on you tube and see what I could find there and thought ok I know what to do. But it never amounted to much. So I stuck with running.

When I started Hammer & Chisel I wasn’t sure what to expect. Least of all I didn’t expect to love it! Which I do! I have had the best results with it, and boy do you sweat. Now it’s my all time favourite, so when I saw that SAGI( who is the personal trainer) for Hard Labour I was so excited. I knew it was meant to be because it was going to whip my butt into shape and get me focused on what I love (MYSELF), and feeling good, not frumpy.

Day 1 – OMG it did not disappoint, it was a killer. It was working on your back and chest. and my goodness it felt good and it also pushed me where I needed to go. It works with light, medium and heavy weights. But then he adds in Heavy Plus!! I know right?! I thought he was crazy, but I did it and I finished it.

Day 2- Was Leg day, well I used to love leg day lol. I was sore for 2 days after.  That heavy plus was brutal but it was good. It challenged me and that’s good. I needed that. Do you find sometimes you kind of take it easy when you workout and then when you want results and they’re not there you wonder why?

I made an oath to myself when I got back from vacation, NO more slacking. I am a Coach, I have ladies that look to me for guidance and support and when I’m eating ice cream telling them to keep going don’t give up. How hypocritical is that?  So I am giving it my all and making sure I stick to the nutrition just as much if not more than the exercise.

The good news is that I’ve already lost 5lbs !!. So it does work. Doing what I’m preaching I feel amazing, I can’t believe how the sugar cravings are gone, the late night snacking is gone. No craving for ice cream anymore.  SO I know when I start our new program on Sept 11 I’ll be right on point.

Now, unfortunately, I’ve had to put the working out on hold until my cold is gone, but I’m sticking to my nutrition and I know I’m going to do great.  I think that’s why I love this program so much, we all have days we don’t feel like doing it or don’t give it our all. But then it gives us the tools we need to get out of that funk and go to it. Accountability groups are a blessing and the Key to keeping it off.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress. IMG_1379
