Mom’s Adventures

What a week it’s been, Mom and I have had a very challenging week. I fear her Dementia has been increasing. The hardest part about Dementia is this, that we never know what our day is going to be like. Of course that’s like anything in life right? Well the difference  is that I never know if Mom is going to be in a good mood, or bad mood and that dictates how my day is going to go.

So this week, I did an epic failure and trust me I learned my lesson lol. I booked too many things (appointments ) together in one week.  As well it was an appointment that she absolutely did NOT want to go to. So that in itself was hard to get her to go.  We had to go see about her getting a Colonoscopy test done. Now she was thinking that it was the actual test , so when I kept telling her No it’s just a consult, she wouldn’t believe me. Go figure. After that was done and he suggested she have it done, because of her having loose stools so often, I thought I would treat her to supper at her favourite restaurant Smitty’s.

It kind of helped but she was very angry and upset with me for taking her in the first place. So when she finally ordered her food, she asked me for her bank card. I said sure , then I asked her what it was that she was buying? She said” None of your business”  then she said she had to go to the bathroom and got up and slowly made her way to the gas station store. In my head I was telling myself to let her go on her own, but my heart wanted to join her to help her in case she got weak or needed help. But my head is like NOPE she wants space. So I convinced myself to sit at the table and if it took too long then go check her out. Well sure enough, the cashier came around and asked his partner for some help. So right away I jumped up thinking the worst that she fell. Well when I got there she started firmly saying “NEVER MIND” to the boy behind the counter, then turned to me and said” Can’t I breathe without you down my neck?” So I explained and then that helped a little. Then she proceeded to go to the Bank machine , I once again left her alone. Inside my heart was breaking, because I could tell she was struggling. So when I saw her sit down on her walker I then again went over and asked if she was ok? She said the machine was broken. So I tried it and it worked. Which once again frustrated her even more.  When I asked if she was ready to leave, she very angrily said ” she would leave when she’s ready”

So I paid for supper which wasn’t a hit for her, then waited. When she was finally ready to go, the  whole time walking to the car, she kept complaining about how my Dad has a scooter and he can go anywhere he wants he doesn’t have to depend on anyone( which isn’t exactly true) and her friend does what she wants when she wants.  She then said that she will never be able to do anything without my or my husband’s help.  She then started to cry and was quiet the rest of the drive home. I tried to let her know that they have different problems then her. She has different challenges , but she doesn’t see it.

It broke my heart, to see her struggle.   When there’s nothing I can do to make it better. She’s also been asking if she has to take so many pills for the rest of her life? When I say yes, she just gets more upset. It’s been a challenging week for sure.  Next week we are going in to get New Glasses hopefully that will cheer her up and I also got her Hearing Aids so she doesn’t  have to struggle listening to the TV. So we’ll see how that goes.

My biggest fear is that she’s going downhill faster than we anticipated, and I’m hoping she’ll be ok for at least a year until we get back to Ontario. But Time will tell. I have asked God so many times to let her be ok, I don’t dare ask any more favours. I do get to spend our precious time together and I am grateful for the good and bad everyday.

 

80 Day Obsession Phase 1

What a program, I am so excited that I decided to do this program! It has come in my life at exactly the right time! Sadly I had gained 20 lbs before Christmas, I wasn’t in to it. I started eating sugary foods, greasy foods etc.  I got on that too old familiar train of mine.  So when this program started on Jan 15, I couldn’t believe how quickly my body and my mind had changed. It was exactly what I needed.

I thought I would give you a little run down of what the month of Phase 1 to the program did for me. There are 3 phases, with each phase getting a little harder in workouts, and the nutrition changes each phase as well.  So the first phase I what I just completed and I’m going to tell you something, I never expected to get this fast results so quickly. I have been doing Beachbody for over a year now, and each program has taught me a little more about myself.  So why is this one different? Well quite simply it’s the “Timed Nutrition”  the workouts are different, absolutely and they’re longer but when I did Body Beast they were an hour as well, so that didn’t worry me. But the Timed Nutrition frightened me a bit, until I got into week two. Week one was like a Detox to me, getting rid of all the crap that I was eating, bag of licorise, take out etc. I’ve done the 3 Day Refresh before so I knew what to expect that week.

But the second week, my energy sky rocketed, I felt awesome!  My clothes started to fit better, I wasn’t hungry, I wasn’t bloated anymore.  I wasn’t craving any crap anymore, in fact there was so many times I had to eat and when my alarm went off , I would be like really? Already? But that awful time for me is after supper before bed , I wasn’t running to the fridge or cupboard to grab my late night snack. I would have a cup of tea and be done with it!

By week 3 it just kept improving, the workouts were finally getting better for me. By that I mean I was able to finally doing the whole workout without having to pause, or able to increase my weights. It felt great! I was excited for each day, especially for “BOOTY” or “LEG” day not a huge fan and I never will be of Saturday’s workout, It’s called “CARDIO FLOW” , but I get it done and I feel good afterwards because I know it’s the next step towards my goal! On Sunday I finally weighed myself, which I am notorious for always checking. But Autumn said to wait until Sunday Morning and wait until the end of the Phase 1. Well I got to the end of week 3 and couldn’t wait any longer lol. I had actually dropped 5 pounds and 9 Inches!!

The Last week was the best by far I was able to increase my weights yet again, and I was actually getting my nutrition in a system and doing quite well. Now I did have some slip ups like when I’m on the road to a client and forget to bring my meal with me, so that would delay my meals. But honestly overall did pretty darn good as far as I’m concerned.

Now I have already started Phase 2 but I’m not going to say too much, you’ll just have to check in with my blog Next Sunday!! But if it’s anything like last week or even Phase 1 there is definitely going to be some challenges and some exciting Results!

Chocolate Waffles and Strawberries

Happy Valentines Day!!

I hope all of you had a wonderful day! Even if you don’t have a boyfriend, or husband.  There are so many people, furry too that are in your life that you can share love and make someone special today! I wish you all the most love that you can have.   So with that usually this day brings the usual treats  Chocolates, Roses etc.

With my weightless journey these kind of days I used to regret, not about the love part but about the chocolates and treats and dinner out! So what did I do for this Fabulous day, and my husband is out of town, I made my famous chocolate waffles and strawberries of course!

So if your trying to eat healthy and wanting to stick with it, this is a very good option to still eat healthy but have chocolate too , and not feel like your losing out!  So here is the recipe, enjoy it and have it any day you’d like!

Ingredients:

  1. 1 scoop of Chocolate Shakeology
  2. 1/3 cup of Oat Flour ( I use Oatmeal and put it in my Ninja until it’s fine like flour)
  3. 1/2 cup of Egg Whites
  4. 1 tsp Baking Powder
  5. 1 tbsp of cocoa ( optional)
  6. optional you can use almond milk to make it creamy enough to pour like pancake mix or water.
  7. 1 cup of chopped strawberries( or any fruit you’d like)

Directions :

Mix all together until you get a smooth creamy texture, one that you can pour either in a pan or waffle maker.  Spray pan or waffle maker , then pour batter. It will puff up and then top with fruit and enjoy!

Cheesy Cauliflower Nachos

Ok so who doesn’t love Nacho’s? Especially when the Super was on Sunday?! Right, well this recipe is a great substitute if you want to still enjoy Nacho’s without having all the extra that goes with it!! I for one am a huge fan in fact I’m making this tonight! a quick and easy finger food, while mom enjoy’s her sausage rolls. lol.  Some things I cannot change but that doesn’t mean that I can’t still enjoy my food.

Cheesy Cauliflower Nachos

These Cheesy Cauliflower Nachos are a great way to get your nacho fix without derailing your healthy eating!

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 33 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cauliflower cut into florets
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • ½ tsp. ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp. sea salt or Himalayan salt
  • ¼ tsp. chili powder
  • ¼ tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ cup shredded Monterey jack or pepperjack cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped tomato
  • ¼ cup chopped red onion
  • ¼ cup chopped orange bell pepper
  • 1 medium jalapeño seeds and veins removed (optional), sliced (can add a second if desired)
  • ½ cup mashed avocado
  • 2 Tbsp. finely chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425º F.
  2. Place cauliflower on baking sheet. Drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with cumin, salt, chili powder, and garlic powder; toss gently to blend. Spread evenly on baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until tender crisp and golden.
  4. Top evenly with cheese. Bake for 3 to 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
  5. Top evenly with tomato, onion, bell pepper, jalapeños, avocado, and cilantro; serve immediately.
